The Dartford Contemporary Family Garden is a large private garden designed for outdoor living, relaxation and family life. The project transformed an existing property into a contemporary landscape featuring generous terraces, structured planting and carefully integrated architectural elements that connect the house to the wider garden.This Large family garden near the coast already had some established trees and a tennis court on site. However, it was all looking somewhat dated and our clients wanted to bring the exterior of the property up to the quality and finish of the main residence. Our design treatment was applied to the entire property, front and back and while the site was largely cleared, the best of the trees were pruned and maintained.
The garden features a large porcelain terrace with Irish sandstone detailing, gravel pathways and a sunken seating area centred around a fire pit. A reclaimed red brick wall screens the tennis court beyond while providing a striking backdrop for the planting. Throughout the garden, corten steel elements introduce warmth and structure, appearing in the reflection pool, fire feature and a long double pergola walkway that draws the eye through the landscape.
The planting design balances strong architectural structure with softer naturalistic planting. Tightly clipped box spheres and hedging provide form and definition, while colourful perennial planting softens the hard landscape and brings seasonal movement and texture to the garden.
